What is Online Interior Design?

What is online interior design - Leighton Jones Interiors Blog post

At Leighton Jones Interiors we specialise in Online Interior Design – but what is it and why is it so great? Our designer and founder, Sarah, is here to tell you a little more about it…

Online Interior Design vs. Traditional Design Services

Interior design has a reputation for being expensive and pretentious – I’m here to change that reputation.

Online interior design, sometimes referred to as e-design or remote design, is a contemporary take on the traditional interior design service. Traditionally, interior design is done face-to-face and usually includes a complete white-glove service, with furniture being ordered, installed and styled for you. While this is great if you would love a full service, design hours can start to rack up making the whole process quite pricey!

Our online interior design service streamlines the whole interior design experience, with communication done remotely via phone, email, Skype or WhatsApp. This means you don’t have to worry about scheduling home appointments or arranging meetings as all communication can be done in your own time, making the whole process much more convenient! All I need from you is a quick sketch with the measurements of your room and some photos to get a proper idea of the space – no need for a home visit. When I’m finished designing and perfecting, I’ll break down the design with a clickable shopping list, a scale floorplan with your layout and a styling guide with wee notes from me to perfect your space.

Planning and Budgeting

Online interior design is especially great if you are working with a tight budget. I charge a one-off design fee with two different design packages to choose from, meaning there’s no uncertainty about costs or hidden fees. I know how important sticking to a budget can be when designing your home and it can be easy to get carried away! That’s why I’ll ask you to set a rough budget before I start designing and I’ll stick to it when sourcing items for you – it’s amazing what you can achieve with a small budget!

Great Products from the High Street

I love finding products for my designs from high street shops – not only are they super accessible, but there are some great styles for equally great prices, helping to keep the design of your room at a reasonable budget.

Some of my faves are Made.com for furniture, Cult Furniture for lighting and cool industrial styles, and H&M for accessories (of course!). What are your favourite shops for interiors?

New Technology

Online interior design takes full advantage of new technology (a particular love of mine).

I like to use a variety of tools to enhance the design process and presentation for you – everything from shared Pinterest boards to start the design process, to video calls, to creating beautiful computer renderings to help you visualise your finished room.
