Cosy Navy Living Room Design – Selecting A Colour Palette

Blog Post Featured Image - Cosy Navy Living Design

Defining a colour palette for your room is one of the first things I do when designing a room. I love to pull in your favourite colours to create spaces that make you feel happy. Cosy navy and calming sage green is one of my favourite colour combos just now – the two colours work well together to create a cosy space and can be pulled in in different quantities or with a combination of accent colours to create a number of looks.

Last week on social media I shared three Living Room looks using the same colour palette in different styles and asked you to vote for your favourite design.

The winner was Look 3 – Pretty Patterns, with a cosy navy button back sofa, green painted walls and plenty of pretty floral prints and soft shapes that work together to create a beautiful living room. I thought I would share a little more about this design on the blog today with a Shop The Look feature for you to create this design in your own home.

Defining a colour palette

colour palette with navy green and pink circles

This look is perfect for freshening up your home as the days start to get a little brighter (I know… florals for spring – groundbreaking!). We can stick with cosy navy and soft nautrals as a beautiful base, while adding some inky green painted walls, along with blush pink and deep burgundy accents to inject a little warmth and life into the scheme, Pull these accent colours out at different points around the room for a cohesive look, with small injections in artwork, cushions and accessories.

When combining colours and creating a colour palette for your room, pay attention to the undertones that each colour has – this palette has a warm grey undertone so that the colours are a little muddy, rather than being clear and bright. Green and pink sit opposite one another on the colour wheel, meaning they are a complementary pairing that work well together.

This design has lots of soft shapes and curved edges which is part of what makes it look so cosy and comfortable. Shiny metals and reflective surfaces always look great with darker painted walls, such as the lovely green in this design, as they bounce light back into the room and give the space a luxurious feel.
