Lets talk about Christmas decorating trends! I’m not going to lie, I absolutely love this time of year. The short days mean evenings are spent curled up under blankets watching Christmas films (usually Love Actually) and eating my weight in mince pies. Everything looks so pretty as lights, trees and decorations appear everywhere you look.
The time has come to get the tree up and dust of the decorations from last year to get your home looking lovely for Christmas. To give you some festive inspiration, I’ve broken down our top Christmas decorating trends this year.

Christmas Decorating Trend – Vintage Treasures
You really can’t beat classic decorations at Christmas time. After all, this time of year is full of traditions. being with your loved ones and making happy memories. Decorating a Christmas tree indoors first became popular in the UK in the Victorian era when Prince Albert brought a tree over from Germany to display in Windsor Castle, and it’s a tradition that has been found in homes ever since. The traditional colours of red, green and gold are popular year after year for timeless Christmas decorating. These colours are a Christmas staple, making it easy to mix new decorations with treasured pieces that are full of love and nostalgia.

Traditional berry red, holly green and gold.

Christmas Decorating Trend – Rustic Scandinavian
The rustic Scandinavian trend is big in interiors right now. This look is simple and paired back with minimal styling, an earthy colour palette of greens, rusts and greys, and lots of natural textures. The rustic Scandi trend is perfect for styling up your home over the festive period – opt for lots of greenery, warm white fairy lights and natural wood and metal decorations – simplicity is key. Pile on the texture with fur throws, or add some linen napkins to your Christmas table.

Colour Palette:
Earthy colours such as copper, blush and green with plenty of black and white.
Key Items:
Keep it minimal – round baubles and stars with lots of natural branches, pine cones and candles. Simple Scandi houses are perfect for this look too. Avoid pattern and go for a variety of natural textures instead.

Christmas Decorating Trend – Dark Luxury
I love dark and moody interiors – and the trend works so well for Christmas decorating too. Evoke a feeling of luxury by combining a dark backdrop with rich jewel colours, glittery gold and indulgent textures like velvet, marble and shiny brass. Tropical prints have been very popular this year, this trend works so well with the dark glamorous look for Christmas too.

Colour Palette:
Rich teals, navy, deep green, purple and gold.
Key Items:
Velvet baubles, glittering gold textured decorations with tropical birds or art deco inspired pieces too.

Christmas Decorating Trend – Leafy Greenery
One trend that I’ve noticed all over Instagram this year is natural greenery. Sumptuous leafy garlands draped across the fireplace and down staircases, and simple naked Christmas trees with plenty of warm white fairy lights. This trend could be classed as a simpler version of the rustic Scandinavian trend as decorations are replaced with fresh sprigs of eucalyptus, seasonal flowers and pine branches. This is perfect for DIY-ers – if you fancy making your own displays then grab some fresh foliage from your local florist or head out for a winter walk and collect pieces on your way. Don’t forget the oasis foam to keep plants looking fresh for the whole season. You can also recreate the look with beautiful faux garlands or by adding a simple wreath to your front door.

Colour Palette:
Fresh greens.
Key Items:
Lots of greenery, eucalyptus sprays, pine branches, flowers, pine cones and white lights.
